At Saltworks, every child’s individual experience is important to us. Our classes are small, averaging 10 students to one teacher and one assistant. Actors of all levels of experience are welcome and encouraged to grow and learn at their own pace. Our teachers are theater professionals with a heart for education and a commitment to encourage each student to achieve their theatrical goals. The friendly, exciting community that is created here often brings families back year after year. In fact, many of our teachers and assistants are Saltworks alum who have chosen theater education as a career.

Saltworks Young Actors Studio is a place to learn about acting among supportive friends. We emphasize building basic acting skills as well as developing personal character and the important skill of working in an ensemble. Our philosophy is “process over product” which means that we value the individual journey and the success of each student to achieve new goals more than the final production.

Class Information

Join us for one or both sessions this spring as we bring characters and scenes to life while polishing our acting skills. All experience levels welcome!

Creating a Character – $110
Ages 10-16
Feb. 25 – Mar. 31, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Church of the Ascension, Oakland/Shadyside

What makes a character interesting? Physicality and voice, backstory and motivation, costumes and quirks…we’ll create original characters then write monologues to perform at our end of class showcase.

Creating a Scene – $110 – CLASS CANCELLED
Ages 10-16
Apr. 14 – May 19, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

What happens when interesting characters get together? We’ll explore scene structure, relationships, status, and how to listen actively and react honestly on stage as we write scenes for our showcase.
