The Young Actors Studio is a place to explore theater, make friends, use your imagination, and have fun! We believe that every person is important and has a story to share. When you come to Saltworks, you’ll have the opportunity to act and be creative while always being accepted for who you are. We emphasize building theatrical skills as well as skills that will help you in the rest of your life, things like confidence, problem-solving, and making great friends.

If you’ve been to Saltworks Young Actors Studio before, you know what a wonderful place it is to learn about theater. If you are new to Saltworks, don’t worry, you’ll soon feel right at home!

READY, SET, ACT! – Ages 4-6

Church of the Ascension, Oakland/Shadyside
      Tuesdays, 6:00 – 7:00, March 14 – May 9
Christ Church at Grove Farm, Sewickley
     Thursdays, 6:00 – 7:00, March 16 – May 11
Cost: $90
Theater builds confidence, encourages imagination, and requires working as an ensemble, and those are all skills that it’s never too early to start developing. Our youngest students will work on these foundations of theater in this fun and imagination-focused class that incorporates stories, games, songs, and plays based on children’s literature.


IT’S ALL ABOUT IMPROV – Ages 7-11

      Tuesdays, 6:00 – 7:30, March 14 – May 9

     Thursdays, 6:00 – 7:30, March 16 – May 11
Cost: $130
Not only is improvisation a whole lot of fun and a very important skill for all actors, but it’s also an incredibly useful skill for all students, public speakers, and problem solvers! Students will learn the importance of saying yes, working together, and going with the flow as they create characters, dialogue, and scenes on the spot. 


CREATING A CHARACTER – Ages 12-18

Church of the Ascension, Oakland/Shadyside
      Tuesdays, 6:00 – 7:30, March 14 – May 9

     Thursdays, 6:00 – 7:30, March 16 – May 11
Cost: $130
Character actors specialize in playing odd or eccentric characters. They give stand out performances because of their ability to completely transform themselves into another person on stage. Students will hone their acting skills as they create fully fleshed out characters with big personalities, striking physicalities, and distinctive voices. 


ACTING AS A SOCIAL SKILL – Ages 12-21
In partnership with Actors for Autism
Church of the Ascension, Oakland/Shadyside
      Tuesdays, 6:30 – 7:30, March 14 – May 9
Cost: $130
An acting and improvisation class focused on the real life application of theater skills in social settings. Scene work will prepare students for both acting on stage and in everyday situations with family, friends, and strangers by providing opportunities to experience the many different social roles we all play but sometimes take for granted. Curriculum developed by Dr. Alisa Wolf (Executive Director and founder of Actors for Autism) for students on the spectrum.
